NELSON — The Intelligent Golf Caddy

A voice-powered, emotionally aware robotic companion that learns from the golfer over time—built for real-time interaction and meaningful performance feedback.

The Concept

NELSON is more than a golf caddy—it’s an intelligent AI-powered assistant designed to help players make better decisions, feel supported, and stay focused on the course. It recommends clubs, analyzes performance, and offers real-time guidance—all tailored to each user over time.

Why It Matters

  • Real-time interaction via voice and gesture
  • Learns your play style, habits, and preferences
  • Low-latency, edge-based responsiveness
  • Designed with accessibility in mind—ideal for older and differently abled players
  • Modular build makes transport and maintenance easy

Technology at Work

  • Conversational AI interface (natural voice dialogue)
  • Sensor fusion for club selection and motion tracking
  • Onboard vision system for swing and stance feedback
  • Memory module to adapt recommendations over time
  • Path planning and terrain-aware navigation

Why We Built This

Golf can be mentally taxing and technically unforgiving. NELSON was born out of a desire to create an AI companion that doesn’t just carry clubs—but supports the player emotionally, tactically, and mentally. Inspired by the future of robotics and the quiet frustrations of solo rounds, we built NELSON to be more than a robot—an understanding teammate on the course.

Current Status

NELSON is in early-stage prototyping. The hardware frame is being developed in Fusion 360, while software components for voice, memory, and emotion recognition are underway. We're actively building partnerships with engineers, students, and early testers.
